Sam Allardyce Out As Manager Of England

Sep 28, 2016 10:54 AM

Sam Allardyce will step down as manager of England following allegations he offered advice on how to circumvent FIFA's rules on player transfers.

Allardyce managed England for just one match.

The FA’s recently appointed chairman, Greg Clarke, met with the chief executive, Martin Glenn, and Allardyce to discuss the comments made by Allardyce to undercover reporters from the Daily Telegraph. The hierarchy had been understood to be disturbed by the allegations, which were made in two meetings secretly filmed in London and Manchester and which surfaced just 67 days after Allardyce had secured what he had claimed was his “dream job.”

Francesco Totti Nearly Left Roma For Real Madrid In 2003

Sep 27, 2016 10:57 AM

Francesco Totti was close to joining Real Madrid in 2003 but he decided to stay with Roma.

"I was about to go there in 2003, even if it's not true that I was in Spain," Totti told Sky Sport Italia. "But then my heart, my friends and the family helped me reflect on it, and fortunately I am still here to tell the tale.

"And then when there were problems with the penultimate contract I signed, I really thought about changing club."

Totti is still playing productive football at the age of 40.

Antoine Griezmann Admits PSG Showed Interest In Summer

Sep 27, 2016 11:22 AM

Antoine Griezmann admitted in an interview that Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest in him this summer.

"(PSG) were very interested in me during Euro 2016, but I told my agent that I didn't want to know about anything that wasn't to do with the French national side," said Griezmann.

Griezmann has said he would only have interest in a transfer from Atletico Madrid if Diego Simeone also left the club.

"I knew PSG were really keen, and it's a big club that's constantly looking to be bigger, but I was only focused on the national side, and I wanted to isolate myself from everything, from Atlético, from PSG and any possible interest in me. My head was just focused on the European Championships."

Griezmann enjoys life in his adopted homeland of Spain.

"Spain is my daily life. I eat at three, I sleep the siesta, I talk to my dog in Spanish... my daughter's first words were in Spanish. Now I make the effort to speak to her in French. I've been here since I was 14."

Real Madrid Offered Mourinho Chance To Return In 2015 For Clear-Out

Sep 24, 2016 4:33 PM

Jose Mourinho claims Florentino Perez offered him an opportunity to return to Real Madrid in 2015 before they hired Rafa Benitez.

“The president values me and wanted me to return to Real Madrid and oversee a clear-out which would have included players such as Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo… I told him that it was too late.”

Mourinho said Zinedine Zidane was also considered and he was surprised the job went to Rafa Benitez.

He was considered due to his profile and status, but he made a mess of things at Castilla and Perez was worried about taking a risk. Klopp was another name highly touted but never Rafa.”

Swansea Expected To Target Ryan Giggs

Sep 22, 2016 2:23 PM

Ryan Giggs has emerged as Swansea City's top target should they part company with boss Francesco Guidolin.

Guidolin's position at Swansea has come under scrutiny after an indifferent start to the new Premier League season.

Swansea has won just one of their opening five Premier League matches and have been knocked out of the EFL Cup.

Guidolin took over at Swansea from Garry Monk in January on an interim basis and guided the club to safety before being handed the job permanently in the summer.

Giggs is currently out of work after ending his long association with United earlier this summer following the arrival of Jose Mourinho as manager.

After finishing his playing career, Giggs served as assistant to David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal at United in the last three years, but he saw his No.2 role taken up by Rui Faria after Mourinho's appointment.

Robert Lewandowski In No Rush To Sign Extension With Bayern

Sep 22, 2016 2:19 PM

Robert Lewandowski is in no rush to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski signed a five-year deal when joining Bayern on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

According to German broadcaster Sport1, Lewandowski's agents met with Bayern at their training ground in Munich on Wednesday.

Lewandowski did not deny that a meeting had taken place between the club and his advisers, Cezary Kucharski and Maik Barthel, but said: "I have no idea what happened there and if they only had coffee or went into more detail.

"I have always said we'll find a solution. We need to remain calm, it isn't that easy once the season is underway. We play every three days, and that's most important for me."

Claudio Ranieri Not Worried About Danny Drinkwater Links To United

Sep 22, 2016 2:15 PM

Claudio Ranieri is relaxed about reports linking Danny Drinkwater with Manchester United and says Leicester City has no interested in selling him.

Drinkwater, 26, has been linked with a return to United, whom he left in 2012, despite him signing a new long-term contract with the Premier League champions this summer.

Leicester plays United this Saturday.

"I'm very surprised because often it happens one month before the market and not now," said Ranieri.

"[Drinkwater] signed a new contract and everything is normal. I think he doesn't have a clause. We don't want to sell anybody. We want to keep our players.

"When I have a player who is wanted by big teams I am very happy because that means we are working very well.

"Sometimes I say maybe the newspaper doesn't have some news and they write some news -- this is OK. That is my idea."

“Right now I am so happy, I am settled here, I am slowly turning into a southerner so I hope I can stay for a very long time and see where it takes me. At the minute I wouldn’t wish for anything more than to play for Spurs for the rest of my career.

“It’s been a great couple of weeks for the club with Dele, Eric, Christian and Harry Winks all signing contracts. Everyone knows that the club is going in the right direction and I’m over the moon that I’ll stay here until I’m an old man!”
